book lovers’ etsy gift guide

I love that February is Library Lovers’ Month!  I grew up going to the library all the time.  My mom loved to read.  A lot.

My fondest memories are going to small bookstores in the area (not many of those around any longer) and the library.  My favorite library to visit, with my mom, was the downtown St. Paul library. She would tell me about the time period in her 20’s when she worked at that library.  I think that was her first “real” job.  She would light up telling me about her fun experiences with the people she worked with there.

For a long time, before having my own kids, I really didn’t visit the library.  That changed when I became a mom.  We are fortunate in Dakota Country (in Minnesota) to have some great libraries.  I like to spend the summers at the library with my kids; they have so many wonderful programs, for both kids and adults.

Over on Etsy, you can find so many great finds, just perfect for your book lovers.  I like to give a book (or 2) to my boys for Valentine’s day (not just candy).  A book will outlast any box of candy.

an uplifting etsy gift guide

“Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact.”  – William James

As a lifelong resident of Minnesota, I find January and February to be a difficult time to get through, mentally.  Winter blues.  Whatever you want to call it.

If you know someone (or yourself) that needs a little pick me up,  send a special gift, just because.  I’ve been going through some ongoing medical issues since this summer and it felt so nice to receive a card (an actual card, not an email) from a friend recently. It really made my day.

Send a gift just because.  Be kind.  You never know what someone is going through.

Tip: Most Etsy sellers will ship directly to the recipient with a gift card/message (I know I do!), which makes it even more convenient.

finding my way

Back in July here on my blog, I wrote about shifting direction about making a career change in my life.  I scaled back my business this past fall; not taking on any larger wedding orders and having early holiday ordering cut off dates.  It was a huge relief as I became a full time literacy tutor for MN Reading Corps (with the goal of going back to school and working in education).

Also in September I had my annual yearly exam and I’ve been having a lot of pain each month, something new for me.  I talked to my OB/GYM and she thought I had endometriosis based on my symptoms.  I was told to get back onto a birth control pill to help ease the pain each month.  Sadly the birth control was also making me sick (something I never had a problem with in my younger years).  I’m continuing to have monthly, unbearable pain.  I had another doctor’s appointment this morning and we are moving forward with an ultrasound to see where to go from there.  I know “this too shall pass” but having patience to wait and see what is going on and what will help solve it, is frustrating.

When I worked from home, if I was sick, I didn’t have to worry about calling in sick to work because..well I was my own boss.  Now that has changed.

We, as a family, are also dealing with my husband being laid off from work at any point as the company he has been working at for many years was bought out last year and that transition is being formally made this year.  We have no idea when he will be done and that stress has been overwhelming.

With a lot of discussion with my husband, I felt making a career change, right now in my life, was not a good idea.  And to be honest, I missed my business.

It’s been like my 3rd child.  I started it the year after my youngest was born.  I think having time away brought me a refreshed mind to my business, back to how I felt when I was first starting it.  I have so many ideas for my business and it’s so fun to get back to working on them.

I decided to end my service with Reading Corps because of the above reasons and charter a new path on my journey.

I feel a a little adrift right now but I know that feeling will pass with time.

Did you have a time in your life where you felt so off course? What did you do? Or are you going through now? How are you handling it?

Treasury Tuesday: To the Moon and Back

Mary Jane Rose Quartz and Glass Pearl Antique necklace by SatinDollCo

It’s Treasury Tuesday!  Treasuries are collections made on Etsy, usually inspired by a theme.  I’m back to featuring one treasury each week and I thought I would start with this enchanting collection, curated by Gaetena with Satin Doll & Company.

Thank you Gaetena for adding my moon magnets!

Would you like a treasury you have curated featured on my blog? Either include one of my items from my Etsy shop or tag your treasury “mylittlechickadee” and if I pick your treasury I will feature one of your items in the blog post along with the treasury.
