Happy St. Patrick’s Day

irishblessingHappy St. Patrick’s Day!

I love this day; I feel connected to my Irish heritage because of my mom.  She was a beautiful red-haired Irish girl.  She didn’t get a chance to visit Ireland before she passed so I pray I can take my family there one day to scatter some of her ashes there.

One of my favorite Irish blessings (and my mom’s) is:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Even if you’re not Irish give someone a big hug today, spread sunshine wherever you can!  That is the spirit of the Irish and my mom.

::hugs:: to you!

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner, March 17th, to be exact.  I’m part Irish so I’ve always loved celebrating my Irish ancestry.  So green is on my mind and just had to feature this Irish inspired Etsy treasury, curated by Karen with Katie-Claire’s Cottage.

Thank you Karen for including my Eternity Knot Magnets!

Would you like a treasury you have curated featured on my blog? Either include one of my items from my Etsy shop or tag your treasury “mylittlechickadee” and if I pick your treasury I will feature one of your items in the blog post along with the treasury.

I have a dream

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

As my kids are getting older, it’s nice (and challenging at times) talking to them about “bigger” concepts and about ugly times in our history (which carries over to our modern times of course).

With tomorrow being Martin Luther King Jr. day, they have been learning more and more at school.  I have been reading to them, different parts of King’s speeches.  In order for them to understand what he is talking about I had to explain (in 1st and 2nd grade verbiage) the context of his speeches.  When I explained the social environment of that time period my kids just stared at me and asked so many questions about why would anyone care about someone’s skin color.  It warmed my heart to see their confusion that someone with darker skin color would be treated any differently.  My oldest asked, “why would people do that?”  I asked that same question myself when I was little too.  I don’t think I’ll ever have the answer because I don’t understand it myself.

I found this nice printable from Thirty Handmade Days which is a nice way to start that discussion with your young kids.  I filled it out too.

My youngest struggled with the dream for myself, which I was surprised by.  He said, “I want all kids to have lots of toys.”  I wish for that too.  Just simple joy for the world would be just perfect right about now.

Download the “I have a Dream” printable from Thirty Handmade Days here.

Never stop dreaming, no matter how crazy your dreams are or how “unrealistic” they may be to everyone else around you.  They are yours and no one can take them away from you.  They will live on, even after your time here on earth.

From the Heart Home Decor

January tends to feel a little drab in my home.  The outside is landscape is draped in white and the Christmas decor has been put away.  That’s when I switch my focus to celebrating love around my home.  I have selected just a few love inspired pieces but you can continue your own love home decor journey here on Etsy.
